My Simple Hair Routine

When I first started going natural, I was a real stickler to my routine/regimen. I shampooed, DC'd (deep conditioned),and LOC'd EVERY week. Every month I protein comditioned, regular conditioned, hot oil treated, and LOC'd without fail. I spent so much time taking care of Diva, I wasn't enjoying her.

After my mom's passing 10 months ago, I abandoned Diva completely. I was in a really dark place, I couldn't even get in the shower to run water through my head. The result was brittle hair that just broke off in chunks. But now I'm  feeling more like myself and I'm more relaxed with my routine. I found more of a balance with products and timing.

I now wash every two weeks. Diva has a better looking braid out on not so clean hair. I LOC with an EVOO and castor oil blend. They are the most accesible to me and I use them together because castor oil is so heavy seperately. After LOC, I braid my hair, cover it up with a silk scarf, and that's it. If Im not going anywhere the following days tI leave the braids in.  Sometimes I even wear them to work. I put a little oil/water spritz and go on my merry way.

There are a couple of things I would like to do that I should be doing more of. I need to do more hot oil treatments. I have not done one in about a year and I miss the way it makes my hair feel luxuriously soft. I also need to DC more. I am a super LAZY natural and when I don't DC, Diva just goes all to pieces. With me trying the CG method of hair care(no shampoo, no heat, no combs),I cant reslly use my go to deep conditioner ORS Olive Oil Hair Masque. As a substitute, I'm going to use a  DIY from my favorite hair blog. Also, I'm not the best as sleeping in a scarf so I have a silk pillowcase(in desperate need of replacement) as a back up.
The plan is to recommit to Diva because I don't believe in giving up once you've started and I know all good things take TIME! All of you who have either fallen off or are just starting, please keep in mind that you have to be patient. Results will come!!!

Are You Grown?... Are You Natural? ...WELCOME!!!!

Welcome to my brand new blog, everyone! For those of you who followed me here from Mommy In Color (mommyincolor.wordpress.com), thanks! I wanted to seperate my natural hair journey from my parenting journey. I find that I prefer my hair blogs to be solely about hair so I am going to lead by example. I've been ridiculously lax on posting and I have so much to talk about and I'm really excites about Grown and Natural. Let me just say that I am NOT A HAIR CARE PROFESSIONAL. Everything I write about is based on knowledge I've obtained by reading other hair blog, watching You Tube videos, and trial and error. I encourage each and everyone of you to do the same and to use this space as research resource (say that five times fast).

A little bit about me for those o you who don't know me. I'm a 25-year-old single mother of a six-year-old girl I affectionately call Bubba.I waa born and raised in New York City and still live there. Ive been transitioning for three years but I'm still too squeamish to BC (big chop) . I have three different lengths to my hair and two textures. If I had to type it, I would say its 2b abd my kinkiest is 4b/c. My hair has a name, Diva St. James and I have NO idea how that even happened. One day I just looked at it in the mirror and called it that.

I will delve deeper into my favorite products and regimen/routine later. Briefly, I will tell you that my current love is Shea Moisture Coconut/Hibiscus line. My two favorites from that line are the Curl and Style Milk and the Curl Enhancing smoothie. They just make Diva pop!!! I hope you will join in the discussions I will have, ask questions, let me know what's going on with your hair, and enjoy your time here! As I said before...WELCOME!!!
